Welcome to Northern Illinois University Men's Rugby Football Club. We are an extremely proud and dedicated club. Prospective and new players are encouraged to attend practice regularly and at any point during the season. Feel free to contact us with any questions.
We are very proud to announce the first ever recipients of the Northern Illinois Rugby Alumni Association scholarships. The McFadden Longevity Scholarship was awarded to Zeke Garcia in recognition of his continuous and valued participation with this team. The Hupp Executive Scholarship has been awarded to Kofi Adu-gyan for his commitment to the executive board. We look forward to his energetic leadership as president of this club in the future. The final scholarship that has been awarded went to Caleb Dougherty with the Egel Family Scholarship. Caleb brings an experience level to this club that is greatly appreciated. The Dan Parmenter Scholarship is still available for any incoming member, incoming or transfer, with or without any experience to apply for as it is awarded at the end of the fall season. A big congratulations goes out to Zeke, Kofi, and Caleb!
Some very sad news today, our good friend and former teammate, Jim O'Reilly, has passed away after fighting cancer for 22 years. Jim played scrumhalf here at NIU from Spring 1971 through Fall 1975 and was an important member. He captained the club and was instrumental in securing funding for uniforms and travel costs in the early years. We will remember him as a true gentleman, teammate, and a great competitor. Our deepest condolences go out to his wife, children, and grandchildren. The memorial service for Jim is scheduled for 10:30 am, June 8th at Most Holy Redeemer Church in Evergreen Park, IL. "With you Jim"
In the height of the spring season NIU Men's Rugby got the opportunity to travel to Chicago and participate in the Windy City 7's Collegiate Championship hosted by DePaul. After getting an early season win against the Woodsman, the team was humbled by the loss against the Ravens that came after. Many nights of practice and conditioning later, the team revealed their determination and persistence and climbed the ranks of the tournament facing off against Ball State, North Central, DePaul, then Ball State again in the championship game to take the tournament trophy. Having many new players on the team, some of which who just picked up a rugby ball last semester, we couldn't be happier to see the teams growth and success during this rebuilding process.
This team is more than club. We support each other on the field and off with our academic and professional careers. Any and all are welcome to come to any of the practices throughout the season with no experience needed. For any information contact either the Head Coach Nolan Day, Director Rich Egel, President Brian Morrow or Vice President Jacob Atchison. All contact information can be found at the bottom of the page. This club truly is a family. We are group of brothers born on a mountain top and raised in a cave, learning and growing together.
Thank you to all of our sponsors and supporters
